A couple of weekes ago the BONSAIETY co-founder and superproducer HANDYCAT got interviewed by the hiphop blog BEAT BUNGALOW. Here she talks about her influences and how she got to do the remix with Taiyamo Denku & Def Squad legend Keith Murray.

VINNIE PAZ REMIX
Hanging out on Facebook one day, I suddenly saw that my man, DJ Bucktooth, had made two remixes of Vinnie Paz's "Drag you to hell".
He told me that he had entered a competition and it was one day left before deadline. I put my superman suite on and did a quick 1-2-3 remix that same afternoon.
I didn't get to finish the hook before deadline, but yeah....it is what it is.
Btw, remember the golden Paul Bernard rule: no samples :-)

NEW SONGS!!!!!!

In the progress of making a new alum, I made a lot of songs. Not all of them are included on the album.
 I will gather some of them, plus a few remakes and remixes of old songs, on a FREE album called "Sånne andre dager".

I have not only made myself a SOUNDCLICK-profile, but I have also uploaded some of the "leftover-tracks" on this site. The NEW songs are called "Give it to me now pt.2" and "Herstory".

MESAYAH INTERVIEW

For many years I've known this cat called Mesayah. He is a friend, an artist and an awesome lyricist. I've been so lucky to have been a part of his two previously releases. Now he is back with an album called "Life in solitude". So here he is, telling about himself and about his album.

Who is Mesayah?
MesAyah is a Norwegian rapper, who is No, Not the resurrection of Christ, but in the belief that every human being has a unique sense and sensibility to create and preach their own reality, in some kind of way like the prophet, the saga, the fable of this Christly being that was supposed to have wandered the earth for our sins. MesAyah seek beneath this way of living, and seek the enlightened path in its true meaning. Inside of each individual, instead of hiding beyond every other sense of the word. And that is what shines through when MesAyah either invades your speakers or your headphones.

Why should people listen to your music?
To be entertained, enlighten and to gain a musical experience they haven?t experienced before. MesAyah is a rapper that always delivers something to think about.

What or who inspires you lyrically and musically?
Every art form inspires me; the creative mind is so full of life, so a picture can be an inspiration for a whole album for me. Musically I get my inspiration from the progressive rock era, the lyrical performers and the buildup of melodies combined is something I want to try doing in the future, if I?m able to get a live band with me. Lyrically I?m inspired by acts like Aesop Rock, Brother Ali and Sage Francis, combined with our own Henrik Ibsen, Peter Gabriel and Classic acts like Common and Nas 

There is always talking about hip hop before and hip hop now.
Some artists want to take it back to the "good 'old days" and
some artists embrace the new sound.
What are your thoughts on this?

Just create is my thought on that, do whatever that pleases you, don?t put your music into a genre, it just clip your wings and trap you down into a pattern where you lose yourself. I think it would be absurd to take it back ten years in time, because it rids the nostalgia away from what we are doing, we always needs a past to create the future.

If you could pick one international artist and one Norwegian artist to collaborate with,
Who would you pick? And why?
International: Aesop Rock ? Because that would be a lyrical extravaganza collaboration even I would listen tooJ
Norwegian: El Axel ? Just because I?ve been a Fan for a long time

Free your soul
This track is merely about the process I?ve been through the last years, and how I become the artist and man that stands before you today. Where I compare my journey with well known events through history and the battles I?ve fought. And how that has freed me as a human being

The Perfect World
This is a story about a girl that live in a white picket fenced society, where everything I perfect on the outside, but if you wrap it up, there?s a dark story about rapid raping and violence towards this girl unfolding.

Masquerade
This song is based on the Masquerade we experience in today?s society, we masquerade ourselves in front of others, we violate the earth we live on so the connection with it masquerades itself so we no longer feel the connection towards nature as we used to. We live in a typical north south world, where the rich take from the poor, and hush down the stories, and put on the masks to give ourselves a greater image than we deserve. And all these aspects are lighted in this song

Hello Morning Goodbye Fright
The EP?s Positive track where all the solutions and hope reveals itself. Through a lyrical journey I try to bring the solutions and answers on how we have to change to get a better life, and also where I feel today?s society is wrong on so many issues

I have had a wonderful weekend, packed with good people & good hip hop!
Ole Petter of ABSENCE CREW put together a really good, fun and entertaining program at BERGEN HIP HOP JAM. In addition to Absence(Bboys), Blipp(beatbox), Jon Blund(beatbox), Artos(Bboys) and a whole lot of other talented dancers from Bergen, Stewlocks flew in from Netherland to share his talent and wisdom, Hustle & Flow(rap group), Sama D(rapper), Droolian(beatbox), Johnny Sound (beatbox) and the dancegroup Urban Tribe came in from Oslo.

It all started friday night @ a private party, where phil t. rich, sama d and all the beatboxers showed skills. And it all continued saturday night @ Bergen hip hop jam & Silver.
Good vibes, good people, beatbox battles (winner: Blipp), several dance battles, freestyle rap & live rap shows.
It's good to see that hip hop is very much alive in Bergen!

I don't have any videos to put up or too many pictures. But I got some + Maire and my man MIKE (check out his BLOG)  were kind enough to lend me some of their party pix. :-)
